In this land of religious scars
a buddha passes tourist bazaars,
tickling the porcelain statuettes
of the multitudinous Immaculates
who hold an Infant in their arms
like so many recognizable charms.

“Om, Amitaya!
Just like Buddha held by Mother Maya!”

At the Kotel, known to all
as the Western Wailing Wall,
there gather those Chasidic Jews
still expecting some good news
of the Second Coming of Elijah
driving his chariot for the Messiah,
or else Schneerson & Son in a hearse,
or whoever greets reporters first.

“(Tee-hee) Bodhisattvas, one and all!”

At the Garden Tomb of the world
he recalls prophecies also herald
the Second Coming of the Buddha
maybe to this holy land of Judah
as a Laughing Maitreya who rickshaws
a pope who is both Christ and Santa Claus.

“Om, Buddha jatakas! (tee-hee)”

With a smile on his face
His Holiness now slows his pace
to hail a garçon with a spoon
for a cup of herbal tea at noon
and turns to greet his anxious host,
a reporter from the Jerusalem Post:

“Jesus returned as Pope John Paul Two.
Now Buddha returns for an interview.”

I really like your thoughts as you explore selfhood. This reminds me somewhat of Roland Barthes’ death of the author

Comment on Why I believe in Christianity: An Atheist Perspective by Dylan Morrison autho https://theloverevolution.org.uk/2011/09/why-i-believe-in-christianity-an-atheist-perspective/#comment-455 Dylan Morrison autho Wed, 19 Oct 2011 14:08:56 +0000 https://theloverevolution.org.uk/?p=1485#comment-455 Interesting thoughts guys – have to agree with you on the manifestation of Christianity that’s became a culture and now a business enterprise in the Western World.

Yeshua is a hard man to pin down. CS Lewis reasoned that we could only place him into one of 3 groups based on what he purportedly claimed. He was a) mad b) bad or c) Divine in some mysterious way.

Lewis may have over simplified the whole thing but in my experience the spiritual and ethic paradigm of the Nazarene is the most radical in world history.

Comment on Why I believe in Christianity: An Atheist Perspective by SAM TICKLE MD. https://theloverevolution.org.uk/2011/09/why-i-believe-in-christianity-an-atheist-perspective/#comment-451 SAM TICKLE MD. Fri, 02 Sep 2011 17:30:44 +0000 https://theloverevolution.org.uk/?p=1485#comment-451 Most of the so called christian churches are mis-named. They are temples to mammon and clubs for the enjoyment of the members

they do not follow the reaching or examples of the man Jesus. he gave to poor and was lifting up the sinners and down trodden
secular humanist do a much better job following the example and life of Jesus Christ. i do not feel a great need for eternal fire insurance nor to i expet pie in the sky

faith is required to diefy the man and that is up to each person
the church has screwed all this up and continues to push for its authority but it has no right of its own

we are all much better of for the influence the man jesus has had on this world
